Top of Utah

OEMM September 2011 Newsletter

September’s meeting will be “Top of Utah” on September 17th.

We will shoot our guns to start the race in our mountain men

clothes. You need to be heading up Black Smith Fork at 6:00am

or earlier (they will close the canyon).

Plan on being stuck up the canyon for a few hours after the race

begins.

Remember, Your dues were due in July. I have gotten them from

some of you. If you were not at the July meeting then you

probably didn’t pay them. We are going to hold the Christmas

party this year based on “Members in Good Standing”. If you

have not been to 50% of the meetings from June to December and

you have not paid your dues you won’t have an invitation to the

party. This is how we are planning on rewarding those members

who come to each months activities and support the club. If you

have a question about your attendance or your dues being paid

please email me at oemmclub@hotmail.com

Doug has been planning with the heritage center for a great

October party. This will be a good celebration for the kids. Mark

your calendars and plan on being at the meeting in October. We

will be camping and enjoying some of the festivities at the

Heritage center.

See you at the “TOP OF UTAH”, Mandy

If you pass beaver lodge it is the next right just on the top of the summit. Go 7 miles on the “sinks road” and turn East @ Hodges Canyon. We will be camping about ½ mile into the canyon. You won’t miss us because the road dead ends there.

The meeting will be at noon. We are having a pot luck lunch with the theme of “dogs, brats, weenies, sausages” You choose. Bring a dish that contains something that resembles a hot dog.

We will also shoot. Before or after the meeting or maybe both.

It rained for 40 days and 40 nights

(This is the bridge going into the site. When we first arrived this is what it looked like. When we left the river was washing over the bridge. There is a lot of debris on the bridge of past high tide.)

Well, at least that what it feels like. Here are some photos of our rendezvous site. As you can see from the photos we can't use that land. There are some dangers that we are not clear of yet this season.

(The river is out of it's bed and has started a new river. This is at the North end of camp near the situation shoot area. The second bend is what is sending the water to the lower parts of camp.)

We, the OEMM presidency are looking for a new location. We spent more than 12 hours yesterday looking for alternate sites. We will keep you posted as we find something. If any of you have an idea of a location that we can use please let us know so we can look into it.

( There are three rivers in camp now. The main river this is a second river next to the "rock garden" and then the back gully by the base of the mountain is running. On Saturday when we went to look, only the back gully had water in it. It dried out near the main bridge in camp. Sunday these two rivers went clear below "hanging bird hill".)

(This is the large gully that was back filled a few years ago. This is looking south from where we held council fire last year. The whole meadow that was a gully and back filled was full of water. The gully that runs on the East of the property was full and flowing with pretty good current on Sunday. This area would be on traders row.)

Some may think we are not working fast enough but Mother Nature didn't send us the memo any earlier than Sunday.

This is the North end of camp. This is where the road dips and heads back to the situation shoot. On Saturday this was the water on the property. I jumped this bit of water on Saturday. On Sunday it was about three lengths of me wide:))

Stay tuned so you know where we will be camping or what will be going on.

May newsletter

OEMM May 2011 Newsletter

Spring Shoot was a BLAST. Thanks to Fort Buenaventura for letting us join in the fun while we were able to be at the fort. Those of you that joined us at Crystal Springs for Easter know what a good time we had and how nice it was to get out and camp.

In May we will be participating in Smithfield Days. The parade is on May 14th. You need to be in the Sky View parking lot 315 east 600 south by 8:00am to help build the float.

Club set up will be May 20th. This is tentative if the weather stays and the land dries up. The officials will decide if we can use the land by the 20th. If we are able to meet there please plan on being there to help set up and get things ready for the next week. EVERY club member will need to help out in order for us to pull this off. By not having a lot of pre rendezvous time it will take a lot of helping hands.

Plan on helping out with different activities while you enjoy the Rendezvous. This is YOUR club putting on the event. Make sure you help out so it is a huge success. We are looking for help at the gate, with the shoot, with dog soldiers.
See you all in May! Upcoming Events: May- RENDEZVOUS
